The latest Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) edits 16.2 deletes dozens of edit pairs this time. But not all of them are bad news. If you are a cardiology coder, read on and find out what’s been added, and what’s been deleted.
You have faced with an edit that has barred reporting cardiovascular stress test codes 93015-93017 since the year 2002. However, starting July 1, you will be able to report these codes together thanks to an edit deletion in the latest CCI codes.

The new CCI 16.2 edits delete the edit bundling 93025 into 93351.

Remember: As because modifier 59 has the potential to bypass CCI codes, practices use this modifier very often. However, you should never use modifier 59 just to get paid for a procedure.

According to CPT instruction, if a more specific modifier describes the situation, you should not append modifier 59.

Some additions to CCI 16.2 have a modifier indicator of 0, which means that you may not unbundle the edit combination under any situation. To put it in other words, you cannot automatically override every CCI edit with modifier 59 just because documentation supports a separate site.
